  Hi Sharon,

This is Li Xia. I learned from your post that you want to improve your Mandarin. I am willing to help you with your Mandarin. As a native Chinese speaker, I can speak Chinese clearly and fluently, and my teachers think highly of my spoken Chinese. I have taught some foreigners Mandarin, which makes me have much experience in teaching.

As for speaking Mandarin, it’s better to pay much attention to the pronunciation. Besides, you must take notice of the handwriting. And you also should keep it in mind that comparing notes with your classmates frequently is a good way to improve your study.

In return l hope you can help me with my spoken English. When I speak English, I often feel a little nervous. Can you give me some advice on how to overcome that?

Looking forward lo hearing from you.

  Li Xia

The mouse is a most effective device used by people to communicate with a computer. For most people, it's almost impossible to operate a computer without a mouse, let alone surf the Internet. A well-chosen mouse is really handy, flexible and convenient in controlling the screen. With the functions of ing, deleting, moving and copying, it enables us to edit test, browse web page and download what we want.

It can even bring us a flood of music, movies and PC games. Just imagine, all this can be done with a cute mouse. A convenient tool can certainly make our work easier, but it doesn't always help in a positive way. Too much ready information on our fingertips leaves little room for knowledge pursuing.

Too many ready answers make us less excited in finding truth. Relying too much on mouse clicking makes us lazier and less creative both mentally and physically.

At present, a number of middle school students have picked up a bad habit--cheating in examinations.

At present, a number of middle school students have picked up a bad habit - cheating in examinations.

There are three main reasons. First, schools have given students too many exams, some of which are too difficult. Second, some students are not hard-working and they don't work hard at their lessons. Third, they waste a lot of time playing games or surfing the Internet. So they haven't enough time to prepare for the exams. Finally, students have to do so to make their teachers and parents happy.

In my opinion, cheating in exams does great harm to our study. We students should be honest and diligent, and only in this way can we improve our study and make progress. Besides, our teachers should offer us fewer exams and more time to study for ourselves.

  Dear Dad(Mum),

You’re so busy every day that you don’t pay much attention to your health. I’m worried about your health all the time. I’d like to give you some suggestions. I hear walking is the best sport. Your company isn’t far from home, is it? Why not walk to the office? You’d better take exercise at least once a week, such as playing tennis in the gym. Going to swim is also a nice choice, too. What’s more, it’s necessary to have healthy food. Try not to stay up too late. Having enough sleep can help your brain work better.

Dad, please accept my advice. I really wish you healthy!

  实现有效的沟通,建立良好的人际关系,不仅要善于言表,更要学会倾听。请你根据下表中所提供的信息,写一篇题为 “Being a Good Listener” 的'英文演讲稿。

  Good afternoon, everyone.

The topic of my speech today is “Being a Good Listener”.

Good listening can always show respect, promote understanding, and improve interpersonal relationship.

Many people suggest that parents should listen more to their children, so they will understand them better, and find it easy to narrow the generation gap; teachers should listen more to their students, then they can meet their needs better, and place themselves in a good relationship with their students; students should listen more to their classmates, thus they will help and learn from each other, and a friendship is likely to be formed.

What I want to stress is that each of us should listen to others. Show your respect and never stop others till they finish their talk; show you are interested by a supportive silence or a knowing smile; be open-minded to different opinions even though you don’t like them. In a word, good listening can really enable us to get closer to each other.

  Thank you for your listening!

As is shown in the picture above, two men react in completely opposite ways when faced with the same event: A bottle fell off on the ground, and the wine inside spilt out. One is smiling, feeling glad that he still has the rest half of the wine while the other is sighing in great desperation saying that “everything screwed up!” The cartoon tells us that being optimistic and being pessimistic are two different attitudes towards life. Faced with a challenge, a pessimistic person may feel gloomy and distressed. He considers himself powerless, and complains about it all day long, refusing even to have a try before giving it up in the end. An optimistic person, however, may adopt an entirely different approach. He may not regard the challenge as something that bad; instead, he takes it as an excellent opportunity to display his abilities and talent. As an old saying goes, “The way you perceive the world will determine your way to cope with it.” In my point of view, though it is natural that we encounter challenges of one kind or another in our life, we should be optimistic whenever we are confronted with challenges. If we are pessimistic, we are destined to fail, ending up accomplishing nothing. But if we approach the challenges in an optimistic way, we may go from victory to victory.

there was a little boy with a bad temper. his father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, to hammer a nail in the back fence.

the first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. then it gradually dwindled down. he discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all. he told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. the days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. the father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. he said, "you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. the fence will never be the same. when you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.

you can put a knife in a man and draw it out. it won't matter how many times you say i'm sorry, the wound is still there. a verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. friends are a very rare jewel, indeed. they make you smile and encourage you to succeed. they lend an ear, they share a word of praise, and they always want to open their hearts to us.

Should tourists take photos with animals? Koalas in wildlife parks can't fall asleep because tourists keep disturbing them. The movement is thinking to make the tourists' behaviour illegal to protect the animals. When people are visiting wildlife parks, they like to take photographs with animals. Reasons for this are varied. Some people may think taking photos with animals are funny in contrast with taking photos with other persons.

Others may think that it will be an interesting experience to take photos with animals during their visit. If I were an animal in the wildlife park, I would feel annoyed when people keep photographing with me. My life would be greatly influenced and I wouldn't feel happy at all! I think I should have some private space and time to relax myself. However, I don't agree if it is announced illegal to take photos with animals.

Tourists pay for tickets to visit the wildlife park and it will be a pity for them if they can't have a photo with an animal. Perhaps wildlife parks can set some special time, during which tourists can take photos with animals. It can both satisfy tourists and protect the animals.

A teacher just likes a shining

A teacher just likes a shining star to students.Miss Fu, one of my English teacher, is a shining star in my life.I happened to be in Miss Fu's class when I began my high school years. At that time, I dared not speak English aloud in public, for I was shy and my pronunciation and intonation were poor.Afraid of being laughed at, I never put up my hand to answer the questions Miss Fu raised in class, even if I had some good answers to them. For a time, I even lost interest in practising spoken English. When Miss Fu found out the reason, she encouraged me to speak.First she bought me some English tapes and told me to listen to them carefully, and try to recite them.In class, I was often asked questions and given a lot of chances to practise speaking.Little by little, I became brave enough to speak, and was not afraid to speak English before others.Miss Fu smiled sweetly when she heard the news that I had been chosen to take part in an important oral English contest.Whenever I look at the stars in the sky, I recognize the brightest one----the symbol of Miss Fu in my heart.Miss Fu will always be a shining star in my life!

  June 8th

  Dear Haiqing,

I hear you are very unhappy these days because your parents can’t afford to buy you some brand-name shoes and garments you like very much. And I write you this letter to share with you what I think about this matter.

To begin with, beauty is just skin deep. Don’t you think it silly to pay so much attention to your appearance? He is a shallow person who judges others by their appearance; in the same sense, he is a shallow person who thinks that a brand-name garment can add to his glamour. So please, just forget about those brand-name things. What really matters is not whether you wear brand-name shoes or garments but whether your clothes fit you. As a student, you have to wear the school uniform on the weekdays and to be honest, you look very smart in it. Then why do you have to bother to buy the expensive brand-name things?

Secondly, I know your parents are both average workers. Hard as they work, they don’t earn much. Despite this, they do their best to give you a lot of things on demand. Look at the callus on their hands and wrinkles on their faces, how can you have the heart to ask for more than they can afford, which will surely break their hearts? Remember, parents don’t owe us expensive summer camps; they don’t owe us Sony Walkman; nor do they owe us Nike shoes, If you really want those fancy things, you should take a part-time job to contribute to their purchase rather than ask your parents for money to add to their already heavy burden. Don’t you think so?

Thirdly, we have such a wide variety of things available these days which are both nice and inexpensive. What’s the point of paying much more for those brand-name things that are not much better? My friend, take my advice, and you’ll be a wiser consumer as well as a more considerate child to your parents.

Poverty, sometimes, is a good thing. It can test a person’s character and it makes a man out of a boy faster than anything else. Keep working hard, and you are bound to be able to afford those things in the near future. Now you may as well focus on your study. Anyway, wouldn’t it be funny for a would-be achiever to be so preoccupied with brand-name things all day long?

  Keep in touch.

As a high school student, I consider English a very important subject. In order to learn it well, apart from English class, I take an active part in English corner and other after-class English activities, which benefit me a lot.

In the English corner, I meet many friends, who share the same interest with me. Besides, sometimes some foreigners are glad to join us. By talking with them, my oral English improved a lot. I also find it useful to keep English diaries. I have been keeping on doing it for years and it is helpfl to my English. As a saying goes, practice makes perfect. Only by practice will we make rapid progress. Finally, EnjoyReaing contributes a lot of my improvement. Through the English website, I can read some classic English passages, poems and stories. With the approach of Shanghai World Expo, what has caused the public concern is whether the local government should follow Beijing to take strict measures to restrict the use of private cars during the Olympics to solve the serious traffic problems.

Shanghai experts have voiced different opinions about it,I hold that current traffic situation should be st,as more and more private cars flood into cities, city services and facilities have been strained to a breaking nghai, the host city of the Expo, has been exposed not only to the problem of increasing population, but to the problem of the overcrowded traffic.A second problem is the physical growing number of private cars, whose exhaust sends huge quantities of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, makes the air of cities unbreathable.

All the action the committee will adopt just reflects the theme of 20xx Shanghai World Expo"Better cities, better lives"。So,what’s your choice?
